John, I did not know you for long, however your work and humble manner were inspirational. I will not forget the time you gave me and the glimpse of your special talent.

Wearing a pounamu pendant John made me when he was at Totara Post, north of Waiwera, some fourty years ago. Actually I always wear it, even in the surf, and lost for a day after surfing Kaikoura. Found it next morning on the beach, so I was meant to keep it. Shared a love for music, Danny O'Keefe for example, and John was a supporter and friend when I was starting out in music. Shock for me that he's gone, always talented, and a generous man.

We reunited just a couple of years ago, after more than 40 in separate parts of the world. It was so good to see you and reminisce about our youth together. Now you're travelling to yet other worlds, with a life filled with love and richness many would envy. Travel well young friend - soar among the stars where spirits are unrestrained. Your earthly creativity and friendship will be greatly missed. Much love to all your family and friends - especially Ann at this time.
