John was a gentle man whose humour could lighten the darkest times. Tales of his escapades in the Treasury are legion. A bright light is extinguished and the world is a poorer place.

John was a true gentleman and a great example for what can be achieved by calm determination. He became a very special and valued colleague during his short time at Rotorua's Forest Research Institute

In the words of Leonardo da Vinci: For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return. John was a wonderful supporter of the Wellington Aero Club and Women in Aviation, a meticulous pilot and friend to all. Fly free buddy.
