Murray and I first met John in 2013 when we purchased the miniature train ride at the Matakana Country Park. John, with his huge heart and kind and generous nature supported us and did as much as he could to ensure our little business thrived. The slogan John created for the park is "Joy to the People " and we remember John would often Park up beside the train and just watch the rides. It gave him immense pleasure and satisfaction to see so many laughing and happy faces. I personally came to know John on a much deeper level as his part-time PA and office assistant from 2013 right up until early December 2022, when we moved away from the area. I developed a huge fondness and great respect and admiration for John during this time and am heartbroken to learn of his passing, too late to attend the funeral. I just wish someone had let me know earlier. Our deepest condolences go out to Jack and Grace and the rest of the family. RIP John Baker, you will be missed.

John gave me a number of great opportunities when I first started my Architectural practice in the 80´s. Such a generous, kind, and honest guy. One of the few whose word truly was his bond. If he said he would, he did.

So sorry to hear this news. John was incredibly generous. My husband and I got married in Raglan in 2003 and John´s red ford pickup truck was one of the bridal cars. He drove all the way to Raglan for us, had photos and then escorted the bridal crew to different venues around Raglan.
We will never forget you John. A huge heart and a generous community man. Craig and Lauren Henderson x

John was an icon in Auckland CBD and CBD fringe property development for 30+ years. A decisive honest man who always recognised agency. I have many memories of his agency functions and his enticing banter to work with him to bring him any deal. And when it was his time to sell you would get the call. With my family I now frequently enjoy his Matakana/Stables development while sipping a cocktail. John was a top shelf businessman and friend.

Our condolences to all the family on the passing of a good man, generous, friendly, a great help to those that needed. John had vision and plans right up to the day he died. We loved to sit and talk with John a wealth of knowledge and a great judge of character. A community focused individual, always thinking how he can help his local Matakana family. John had a great affinity with the land and animals Hoover will miss him, I´m sure. Special thoughts to Jack and Ivana who will really miss John, also to Grace, Sasha an Will who had a special place in his heart. We will miss you old fella, make sure you disrupt where you are. A special place in our hearts . Regards Steve and Jessie
