STEWART, Joan Alice. 1 October 1931 - 25 March 2018 - Passed away peacefully surrounded by family, aged 86 years. Dearly loved wife of the late Trevor. Loved mum and mother in law of Maureen, Kevin and Vanessa, Shona and Willy, Steven and Wendy, David and Rebecca, Sarah and Dean, Philip, and Megan. Special nana of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at Evans Chapel, Ormond Road, Gisborne at 1pm on Thursday 29th March followed by private cremation. I met Joan in the early 60's, her husband was a well known drover on the East Coast and she and her four children were traveling with him behind a sizeable mob of cattle, he on horseback, she driving an old Bedford truck, with the children and a couple of dogs bringing up the rear on foot.
She said that it was not a life for everyone but it was their life, she was happy to be traveling with Trevor and the children had the kind of adventures most children dream of.
I'm so sorry to the family for the loss of such an adventurous and as I recall, articulate woman.
