Joan was married to my first cousin Seamus. She was an amazing woman. It seemed like she was going to live forever. She just loved life & lived it to the full. I looked forward to her letters telling me of their adventures. I would be exhausted just reading them. She had so much energy. Its not surprising that she lived to such a great age & continued to live alone in her own home which is testament to the strong woman that she was. My condolences to her family, I know she will be missed by you all.

Joan was a cousin of my late mother and also her dearest friend. Over the years, I heard many enjoyable stories of Joan who had a very sharp wit. My mother was Betty Dryland and amusingly, Joan called her Betsy Wetsy. Over recent years, I have very much enjoyed having phone conversations with Joan who had a genuine interest in most things and a memory superior to many people considerably younger than herself. During every conversation, she always said "I love life". I thought this was wonderful and very few of life's problems defeated her. I shall miss our conversations as Joan is a lesson to us all not to sweat the small or even larger issues in life. Carmel and I wish to express our heartfelt condolences to Joan's family. She was, indeed, a very special person.
