Farewell Joan Murphy.

Dearest Murphy Family
Our family grieves with you on hearing of the death of Joan. I feel a deep sadness to think that she is not here anymore.
Joan was always there!
Did you know that Bob, your Dad and Alton, our Dad went to the same Catholic school near New Market? Dad worked for Bob on a number of building sites especially one near Howick beach I seem to remember. That must be about the time we started to visit each other's houses up the hill for us!
Then Joan and Mum set up the Play Centre at Cockle Bay Hall where I think the bulk of the kids was probably all of us.
Many times I would bump into Joan at the Supermarket in Howick (either before I left New Zealand, or on return home visits) and catch up with news. I would also thank her for being such a great friend for Mum. Joan baked cakes ( pavlovas? ) for Francis weddings and funerals. They went for walks and played tennis and when that became a bit much for Mum they had cups of tea at home and around town.
Joan was an inspiration for me of open-heartedness and community engagement. I am grateful to have known her.
With love
Krishna Buhler and family.
