I first met Gus at Manly about 1943. His family had a batch on the beachfront. Lately until health problem intervened, I would meet Gus with his friends at the Vicky One coffee bar on a Wednesday morning.

Jocko held Gus in very high regard and our times growing up sharing holidays and family times boating at Kawau, out the back of a car boots at Eden Park after a rugby international, Ellerslie Race Course centrefield on a Boxing Day or Easter carnival and endless other experiences remain iconic memories of deep friendship.
