This is very grievous news that I'm only coming to now as I recall at this time in January, earlier this year, my parents (esp. my Mum who has known and taught a LOT of Farrells through the generations) were travelling here in the deep South and weren't current with the Catholic community's latest developments - none of us are very good on social media, sadly - and I lost touch with St Joes Pukekohe people a long time ago. Absolutely definitely remember James though (same year/same class as myself) and all his siblings, and dear Irene and Dennis. What a gentle, consistent, kind and happy person James was. He loved all sports on offer, and I recall his being very tidy with socks/uniform and perhaps surprisingly good at folk dancing. Little snippets of memory... and look how he went on to lead his life; clearly a well-loved and respected family man. I am so very sorry for your loss, one and all, and offer these heartfelt condolences on behalf of the wider Irwin family.

1984 and James was the backbone to a successful Counties Primary Schools representative rugby team that won all of their 12 matches against the best in the Northern Regions, scoring a flurry of tries. If there is one abiding memory of an unselfish charitable act on the playing field that personified James, it was his kindness in offering his Te Kauwhata team-mate the ball to finish off a try-scoring movement when he could have easily scored himself. That was the James Farrell we were blessed to see in action. Requiescat In Pace James.

FARRELL, James Matthew. Born October 25, 1971. Passed away on January 15, 2024. Much loved son of Irene and the late Dennis Farrell of Pukekohe. Dearly loved husband of Bernadette and precious father of Jacob, Gabriella, Luke, Caitlin, Quin, Isaac, Tobias, Octavia, Nico and Sienna. Treasured brother and brother-in-law of Anne and Eddie, Brenda and Andrew, Helen and Nick, Denise and Jeff, Gerard and Delia, Catherine and Hemi, Peter and Marie, Richard and Katie. And a very special Uncle to all his nieces and nephews. He tried so hard to stay with us, if only loved could have saved him, he would never have died. A hard-working, Faith-filled man, now resting in the arms of his God.
