Dear Jim, I never got to meet you in person, but I still think you would have made the greatest Prime Minister New Zealand ever had. You're a working-class hero! You inspired me to care about politics from a young age, and I was proud to tick the Alliance box in my very first general election. When I feel disillusioned, I remember your determination to fight for what is right, to fight for workers, the poor and vulnerable. Thank you for your tremendous legacy that will be remembered forever. Rest in peace.

Some years ago I travelled with Jim round the West coast as part of the Alliance Council .I observed at first hand, his genuine kindness and attention to troubles people brought to him;always attending with patience ,even on a couple of days when he was quite ill with flu.He had true humanity- and a great wry sense of humour.

Dear Carole and family - I have so many great memories of the work that you and Jim did to promote social equality in Christchurch. You both lived by your principles and opened your home to people who needed help and guidance. Thank you both for your goodness and inspiration. May Jim Rest In Peace.

Dear Carole and family
I am so sad to hear of the passing of Jim. I have always held Jim with the highest regard and admire him for his wonderful contribution to the political arena over the years. Jim's step father, Victor Anderton was my Dad's Uncle and so I have always regarded Jim as a family member. He has worked hard for the country during his life time and now it is time for him to rest. My love and thoughts go out to you all at this sad time. Noeleen Guillard (nee Boyd) on behalf of all my Anterton relatives.

We didn't agree on the method but it was great being on the same side. You were a big reason I participated in politics. Arohanui

Dear Carole and family,
Saddened to hear that Jim has departed. To me he always seemed invincible. Always staunch and principled and champion of the guy with the seat out of his pants.
He will be missed by his family but also by many thousands of people who held him in high regard and continued to keep the faith and support him all the way.
Time for him to rest now. A life well lived. Love to all, from the Doyle family

ANDERTON, Jim Patrick. Born January 21, 1939. Passed away on January 7, 2018. Father of Jillian, Stephen, Philippa, Chris and Richard, former husband to Joan and dear friend of Graham. His love and understanding as a father, the pride we all felt in his achievements and tireless work in the community is without precedent. Off to the hutch for the last time, 79 and out, not a bad innings Jim.
