Endeared friend to, the Mother of his sons, Shona Ballinger. Cherished eldest son of the late Jack Tohe Ashby Snr and Lavinia Waiarani Ashby. Dearest Brother and Brother In Law of Annie and Terry (Whanganui), Patrick and Nina Ashby (Uawa), Debbie and Larry Shoemark (Marton), Ben and Renee Ashby (Melbourne), and David Ashby (Auckland).
