I also had the pleasure of attending MC while Ivan was in the drivers seat; a principle who always seemed approachable and who cared about the students.
You will be missed.
Condolences to the Armstrong family.

Our condolences. Mr Armstrong always had a warm smile and had a sense of humour. The funniest memory I had was when it was our first year of school. After he gave his welcome speech he introduced the PE teacher and said he would explain the "gold award". The palmolive gold award! Thank you Mr Armstrong for all that you did for our community.

Ivan was my "cool" uncle, although we didn't use the word back in the early 1960s. He drove a black Morris Minor, smoked innumerable cigarettes and played interminable tennis. Despite a busy social life he had time for everyone. I regret not having seem more of him after we, and he, left Christchurch. My thoughts and best wishes go to Joan and the family: Ivan was a very special man and will always be fondly remembered.
