It is with disbelief and great sadness that I heard of this most tragic news. Igor was a much respected colleague who stayed in touch long after we both left Auckland University and he (and later Iwona) re-located to Porirua to accept the position at Alexander Turnbull. My deepest and most sincere condolences are extended to the Drecki family. Igor, your good humour and willingness to always help your colleagues and friends will remain lasting memories. You were such a remarkable, kind and sincere friend and colleague. Knowing you and sharing time with you together is one of the best things in my life. May you and your wife rest in peace.

My family, the Hodge family, met the Drecki clan in a hut- Blythe Hut - on the side of Mt Ruapehu when they were still tourists. 1989? We, including three little girls, came in wet and cold, and they were so hospitable. Anna still remembers the chocolate they gave her. I think Iwona was pregnant, and we thought they might just stay in that hut. I knew they would make a great contribution to NZ, and so it proved. I was pleased to assist with permanent residency. A great loss to NZ

It is a pity that our first and last meeting took place at the conference. I was extremely happy to meet such a person as Mr. Igor. Rest in peace with your spouse. I pray for your souls.

It was with great sadness I heard of the sudden passing of Igor and Iwona. I have great memories of spending time with the family during their stay in Whakatane. My deepest condolences to their daughters and brother Jacek and family. spoczywajcie w pokoju Igor i Ivona.
