Jill SPENCE Obituary

Spence, Jill Diana (Nee Barnett). Our fabulous mum, Jill Diana Spence nee Barnett (1944 - 2025) passed away on the 21st of December. Much loved mum to Rob and I, gran to Ben, Ellie, Charlotte and Jack, sister to Dave, favourite aunt to a secret list, so as not to upset other aunts, and Jack Russell staff to Jane, Meggie and Mossy. Early life in Fiji as pa worked as an engineer during the war, then Russell and settling for many years in the Dargaville area as a farmer, horsey person, beach walker, photographer, painter, cross-country course designer, parsley grower, amazing gardener and generous community member. Only ones who won't be sad are the crayfish and possums… We will gather informally to celebrate Jill at 47 Cloverfields Drive, Waimauku, on the 28th of December 2pm for stories, cream puffs and a wee dram. In lieu of flowers, please plant something beautiful where you can, as mum loved nurturing just about everything that had the good grace to grow.
