We were soo shocked to hear the sad news. You dad taught me to water ski all those years ago and his sense of humour, love of fast boats and his mechanical knowledge of their motors never ceased to amazed us all. May you speed your way unto the sunset. All our love to all the family. May dear Ian RIP. Tracey (Fitzgerald) Crain, Colin and James Crain. Gold Coast, Australia .

There are some people you'd hope never to lose. That's our impression of Ian. Isobel we are so sorry for you. We didn't know Ian well but were really impressed by our several encounters with him and his crew and completely agree with comments made by Greg. As our son Blair remarked 'Ian was an old school dude who was cool as'.

Ian, old mate, you were tough and hard, singular and hard- working and soft and genuine, with never a bad word about anyone....except maybe when work standards were not up to scratch. Always great company and good stories. We shared a love of things forestry and in my case forestry people..... like you.
You had a tear in your eye when you told me recently how much you missed being out on the job. The quiet, the chill morning air and the birds. You had the best blokes shed and would've won the shed tour! I'll re-craft the black labrador in the Corner Pub joke to make sure your name is not forgotten. Typically we miss the opportunity to say some of these things in person. I'll try not to do this again!
Isobel he called you the 'fairy godmother' and having only met you recently I can see why. He was a lucky man.
Among others there's a small group of mates-over-a -beer who missed Ian while he was ailing and miss him so much more now that he's not with us.
