Ian POOL Obituary
POOL, Ian (CNZM, FRSNZ, Professor Emeritus.) (1936 - 2022.) Peacefully after a long illness, in Hamilton on 28 April 2022. Much loved husband of Janet Sceats for almost 60 years, father and father in law of Felicity and Campbell, Jonathan and Mayumi, and grandfather of Nicholas, Fiona, Charlotte and Caroline. There will be a private family commemoration of Ian's life at a later date. Donations to UNICEF NZ (on line 'Donate Now') in lieu of flowers. All correspondence C/- PO Box 439, Hamilton 3240.

I have such fond memories of Ian - as a teacher, a mentor and as a man. He was a giant in the field of demography in New Zealand but was always ready to talk, provide advice and talk about whatever new book he was writing! I didn't see him for years after finishing up at Waikato, but he remembered me immediately when I did see him and was just a very kind and supportive person throughout my time knowing him. He'll be missed by many, in New Zealand and across the world. Sending aroha from all way on the other side of the world to Janet and the family.
