Much love to Trish and the whole family. I'll always fondly remember Mr. Ian and his kind words, great patience and all the fun Katherine and I had learning how to swim in the Patterson pool as little kids. His memory will forever be held in my heart.

It was a good day that Ian parked beside the empty section in Alderton Place when he was showing us houses in Papakura back in 1975! Dear lifelong friend with many happy memories. Our love and thoughts are with you all at this sad time.

What lovely memories I have of Mr Ian from my childhood. He was such a kind and generous man and he and Trish were like another set of grandparents to us. I have very fond memories are learning to do back flips off his shoulders in his pool that we practically lived in all summer. Sending my love to Trish and all of the family. May you be comforted by many memories of such a great man!

PATERSON, Ian Douglas. Peacefully on 3 December 2013. Dearly loved and respected father and father- in-law of Alan and Karen Paterson, adored and devoted grandfather of Claire, Julia and Mike, Hamish, and Cameron, and very proud great-grandfather of Thomas. Ian has been fully involved in our lives and his passing leaves a huge hole. We will miss his positivity, humour, kindness, generosity and wisdom. But we will forever cherish all of the wonderful memories of the many happy times we have shared. Go well Ian. You have earned your rest after a life thoroughly well lived, a fine example to us all. Rest in Peace.

PATERSON, Ian Douglas. You were my hero when I was a child. You were a mate when I was a young adult. You were a source of wisdom throughout all of my life. The dignity, courage and resilience you displayed through the last few weeks have made you my hero again. Your life has been a wonderful success - "you done good" Love from Graham and family.
