Rest in peace Ian and has been a pleasure and privilege to have known you over all these years associated with RNZ Signals. We had many discussions over the years you being with Skirl of the pipes and me being a brass band man as well. Condolences to the family and Michelle yes i would like to be advised when the memorial service does eventuate as I would like to attend. As we operators would say, another "silent key" in the Corps. Your service to the Corps will not be forgotten.

On behalf of myself and the O'Brien family I want to express our sorrow to hear of the passing of our friend and Neighbour Ian Hill. I was associated with Ian for decades and during these many years. Ian piped at our Family, weddings, funerals and Family gatherings and New Years eve became official when he played Pipes on New Years eve from Lavelle road to our house. This was also a signal to the neighbours to join us for Hogmanay...Ian was a wonderful Pipe Major who led our Band of Brothers with dedication and enthusiasm and it was my honour to have joined him at the very beginning of the Pipes and Drums of the Signals Association.. My one regret was the fact that I couldn't convince those in charge to award him a medal for his long service. I believe Ian would have held the rank of Pipe Major longer than any other person in New Zealand to my knowledge. He will be missed and our condolences are extended to his Families.
It's hard to forget someone who gave you so much pleasure
Requiescat in Pace old friend. Your duty is done!
