I had the pleasure of meeting Barry in the summer of 2007, when volunteering at the Driving Creek Railway. Barry was an original artist, and kind man, with a generous laugh and a forward thinking vision. It is sad to learn that he has passed away. His memory lives on in the hearts of the many artists, visitors, and workers who knew him, and in the Driving Creek Railway community.

Dear Barry,

Thank you so much for our friendly conversations and for being the custodian for the art collection of painter Maitland TeTauri.

I'm so sorry you won't be able to fulfil your exhibition plans, hopes and dreams for his artwork - but pray that those you leave behind will honour your wishes.

Thank you also for your kindness towards my late friend Twink McCabe-TeTauri.

Those who miss you are many and widespread Barry. May you rest now - after you huge earthly achievements.

Discovering Barry and DCR in the late 70's was magic for me. His way of life and knowledge of NZ history was a revelation.
The land seemed as charged as him. It couldn't be more fitting that he should go back to it. Thinking of him on this day, Tuesday 26th January.

A dear and original friend who gave so much to others. My personal condolences to his family. Thank you Barry for your care of Maitland Te Tauri's work and for your efforts on behalf of Twink McCabe Te Tauri. Gone so soon and with so much yet planned to do. Sorely missed.
