Warm memories and sympathy to all who knew Don.
His compassion and willingness to engage in difficult questioning and moral dilemmas were greatly appreciated.

I appreciate Don's work and legacy more and more as time goes on, especially in relation to the Korea. He was very welcoming when I visited in 2014 and I cherish the memory of the day at the home in Titahi Bay.

Dear Lyndel, Grant and Fiona. We have just heard that Don died last week. We just want to send you our love and condolences at this sad time... we have so many lovely memories of all of you and of all the good causes that Don took up and espoused often in the face of enormous opposition... With deepest love and best wishes, Kevin and Valerie Clements. (We are currently in Tokyo but will be back in NZ at the endof May).

To the many people who have sent their messages of condolence from around NZ and overseas - a huge thanks from Dad (Don) and Mum (Lyndel), Fiona (daughter) and myself.
Dad would have been humbled by your kind words and send off at the PIC Church in Cannons Creek on Wednesday.
Thanks once again - much appreciation from our family and of course Dad.

Very sorry to hear of your loss. I was at college with his son Grant and can still remember a very cool party at the Borrie home out the Bay! A lovely man who always stood up for what was good and right. xx

Dear Lyndel, Grant and Fiona. So sorry to hear from friends in NZ that Don had died. Remembering him now, brings back many good memories of our time in SCM. This was a formative time in my life and Don was a key mentor. He was fearless in fighting for what he believed in and tackling injustices wherever he saw them. Sorry I can't be at his funeral service as I am currently living in France. My thoughts will be with you on Wednesday. Much love

Dear Lyndel and family,
It feels like another soldier has fallen at this Anzac time. We were often in somewhat different platoons, but always had a respect for each other. From Hamilton Jill and I send our love to you Lyndel, your family, and all of Don's friends. Geoff Walpole

So sad to hear of Don's passing. He was a man steadfast in his beliefs which twinned Christianity with passionate and practical humanity. A rare combination although it shouldnt be! My heartfelt condolences to Lyndel and the family.
