Sorry we couldn't be there today, we send our sincere condolences to Don's family. We remember the times we had at Waikanae beach with your family and at the house in Rothesay Bay. The rumpus room and pool were definitely the hub of the home and I'm sure many fun times were had there with Don singing and dancing. Neil Diamond songs were definitely well played. Love Julia, Murray, Sara and Evan Martin

Thinking of the family today and remembering Uncle Don especially his cheeky smile. Don liked to tell me how he got me to walk to him first, as I didn't walk till I was 2. Thanks Don for teaching me to walk. Love your niece Julia and Murray

Dominion Constructors

June 28, 2024

It was with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Don in this, the 50th year of Dominion Constructors that Don founded with Mick Burnett back in 1973.

Under Don and Micks leadership, Dominion Constructors became one of Auckland“s leading civil construction companies. Having worked with Don and the Dominion team as a subcontractor, The Russell family bought into Dominion when Mick retired in 1991, with Alf and Brett Russell sharing the directorship with Don. Don, Alf and Brett started to expand Dominions capabilities which has continued to this day with involvement across all sectors of the industry.

Don, a Civil Engineer, retired in 1996 but his valuable and respected opinion was sought for several years to come, and we always enjoyed having him share in our celebrations of Dominions successes across the years.

Don started the Dominion legacy of developing strong partnerships and building with quality, a legacy that aligned with the Russell family values and continues as the backbone of Dominion today.

We thank Don for the opportunity he gave us over 30 years ago to become a part of Dominion and for the friendship we have shared throughout this time.

He will be missed but always remembered, and our sincerest condolences and thoughts are with his family at this time.

On behalf of Jeff, Philippa, Lucie, Hana and families

We were sorry to hear of Dons passing, and our deep condolences to all his family.
Don was always the most fun adult to be around and pleasingly not the most sensible!
As kids in the early 1960's and with our own children in the1990's, Don was a great Uncle and grand Uncle. He was an enthusiastic sportsman and break dancer until injury struck, and also made me secretly like Neil Diamond, which was not cool, when I was18.
Apart from that small issue, Don was such a kind and generous man, and we could not have had a better Uncle. Our thoughts and best wishes go to his family as you celebrate his life.
