Dear Poppa,

We shared a moment years ago,
Kayaking at Torbay, the sea thrashing to and fro.

The waves were huge and I was scared,
But I remember you grinning at me from ear to ear.

To calm my nerves and to comfort me,
Every wave we went over you would shout "Whhheeeeeee".

This is one of my fondest memories that I will keep,
Along with beach walks with Snowy and Gonzo pecking at my feet.

You were a master in the garden and gifted with crafts,
And rolling Drum for you was one of my favourite tasks.

Whilst you were quiet and reserved most of the time,
You would become animated speaking of your travels and post-war time.

Poppa, I know that love for you was hard to express,
But your actions always spoke more than words nonetheless.

I wish I could have made it back to see you before you past,
But my memories and love for you will forever last.
