COWAN, Fr. Hugh Donald (Don). On 11 December 2024 at St Joseph's Home and Hospital. Respected priest of the Auckland Diocese. A much loved uncle, cousin and friend to many. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church 6 Beatrice Rd. Remuera, on Tuesday 17 December at 12 noon followed by burial in St Patrick's Cemetery Panmure. I interviewed Fr Cowan when i was writing the history of the Auckland City Mission and my tribute to him is in that book Agency of Hope. At a crutical time in the Mission's history he created a popular move of community support which shaped the mission profoundly.
