Dear Jan and Family,
We were very saddened and shocked to read of Hubert's passing. It has been many years since our school days in Papatoetoe but we have many happy memories from those times. We just wanted to let you know the Kitchin Family are thinking of you with heartfelt sympathy and hope your special memories together will be of comfort now and in the days ahead.

Dear Jan and Family,
John and I were so saddened to hear of Hubert´s passing, he was so nice to us as was the family , when we moved to the US in 1992 , they let us reside in their house for two weeks while we wrapped everything up. Sarah and our daughter Patricia were besties at kindergarten and school . We missed seeing Hubert in January when had a friend´s dinner but Jan came to have dinner with us all .
He was so looking forward to retirement and going around in the camper- We wish we could be there to support the family and celebrate a life well lived.

I've know Hubert since 1981 where we both started at Ellis Hardie Syminton a month apart. Hubert was a young trainee electrical engineer and I was a not long out of my time electrician, both knowing very little about refrigeration. From these humble beginnings we formed a lifelong friendship and have kept in touch ever since even when separated by the ditch. We have always had a good laugh about the many amusing work situations we seemed to get ourselves into. Or more accurately situations I got myself into and Hubert came to the rescue.
How do I best describe Hubert. Well for a start he is a true credit to his parents. He is the most honest person I have ever had the good fortune to meet. He is also loyal, caring, generous, genuinely interested in others and supportive. At times be a little grumpy but never unkind or undermining. A true friend you could always trust and rely on.
Hubert I cannot believe you are no longer with us. It has been the biggest shock of my life. I will never forget you.
Mike.

Worked with Hubert since 2006. Great sense of humour and it is his full of life smile is something I will never forget. He has taken many of us under his wings with his caring and instructive way. Greatly missed

What a shock. Jan it was so good to catch up with you and Hubert in our motorhomes in Kaikoura recently. From the first time I met Hubert on a job at Kauri we clicked. This has been the situation with so many work mates.
A good mate gone too soon. Think of the good times.
