Downham, Howard Mackenzie. Howard Mackenzie Downham, aged 96, passed away peacefully, returned at last to his beloved Margaret. After many years in Auckland, he spent his final years in Tokoroa. 6 July 1929 - 8 January 2026 He built his life with his hands - tinkering, creating, and surrounded by music. A master carpenter, Howard spent decades crafting cars, houses, and boat models entirely from scratch. Fiercely independent and endlessly curious, he approached life the same way he approached his work: with skill, patience, and quiet determination. Howard is survived by his daughters, Bonita, Megan, and Kirsten, his 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and his beloved dog Minnie. He spent his days in the smell of sawdust, oil, and fresh paint, leaving behind a legacy of well-built things, hands-on wisdom, and a life rich with creativity and invention that still echoes through his many descendants. In accordance with Howard's wishes, there will be no funeral service. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date; details are yet to be confirmed. For more details contact Kirsten via email at
