Uncle Herbert is remembered as a kind, thoughtful, and sensitive Gentleman.
The times when we were able to catch up with him ( in NZ, Australia or the UK ) have become treasured memories.
His language skills, descriptive powers, clever turn of phrase and humorous anecdotes were on display in his amazing letters...often received in the form of a New Zealand Aerogramme.
These letters were eagerly circulated amongst the Australian Tunleys and were enjoyed immensely.
Herbert's wonderful writing posture and classic grip of the pen provided a perfect model for us all to emulate.
His love of shoes was legendary !
