THE REVEREND J. NEWTON REED The Reverend J. Newton Reed, in his 93rd year, died Saturday, November 12, 2016 in the comfort of his home, leaving behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Pauline (nee Scully), his five children Susan (Gary Faulkner), Paul (Eleanor), Mark (Karen), David (Chrystal) and Arleane (Tim Ralph) and nine grandchildren, who mourn his loss but admire and try to emulate, the love and generosity he showed to everyone all his life. He leaves a sister Elinor in Oregon and brother, Malcolm of Toronto and was predeceased by his China missionary parents, the Rev. Fred and Anne Reed, his sister Dorothy and brother, Donald. Born and having lived his childhood in China, he finished his high school education in Oshawa, after which he enlisted with the Ontario Regiment for the remainder of WWII. At the University of Toronto he graduated from Victoria College and Emmanuel College and was ordained in 1953. During his ministry in Preeceville, Saskatchewan (3 years) and Sunderland, Ontario (15 years), his activity in the Bay of Quinte Conference of the United Church of Canada, his teaching in Uxbridge Secondary School and his numerous sport activities (himself and with youth) and as padre of the Uxbridge Legion, he has touched so many lives. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Cambridge Street United Church, Lindsay with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of service in the sanctuary at 11:00 a.m. Immediately following, there will be a time of refreshments on the lower level of the church. If he could, he would thank the CCAC ladies who took such tender care of him in his last weeks and his doctor, Sara Ahmed.
