Helen Rasmussen Obituary
Helen Rasmussen, 83, of Monessen, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 20, 2006, in Washington County Health Center, Washington, Pa. She was born May 5, 1922, in Monessen, a daughter of the late George and Mary Uhal Shuma. Helen was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Monessen and its Ladies Guild. After graduating from Monessen High School in 1940, she worked at Corning Glass Company. In 1952, Helen married Melvin Rasmussen and moved to Anaheim, Calif., and then Sioux City, Iowa. She returned to her home town of Monessen in 1979 and made Westgate Manor her home. She will be sadly missed by her sister, Margaret McNeill, of Detroit, Mich.; her children, Margie, Claudia and Susan; three nephews, Nick Mahalko and wife Janice, of Fallowfield Township, who so lovingly cared for her, John Shuma, of Monessen, and Michael Shuma, of Columbia, S.C.; and many great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Mahalko and Mary Thomas; and three brothers, Michael, George and John Shuma. Friends will be received Wednesday, March 22, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the ROBERT A. BILLICK FUNERAL HOME, Grand Boulevard and Marion Avenue, Monessen (724-684-3700), followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral services in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Andrew D. Parvensky officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Rostraver Township. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to: Monessen Meals on Wheels, 1124 Dennis Ave., Monessen, Pa. 15062. The Parish Rosary will be said in church.
