Vere SHARMA Obituary

SHARMA, Vere. Passed away on December 2, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in New Delhi, India, on May 10, 1955, to Dev Sharma and Anne de Barrenechea and brother of Hamish and Nigel. Vere immigrated to New Zealand in 1970, where he built a life of dedication, kindness, and quiet strength. Vere is survived by his beloved wife Christine, his children Jared, Ryan, Emily, Anna-Lise, and Liam, and their partners Karla, Alistair, and Tom and Vere's cherished grandchildren Bailey, Stevie, Juniper, Uma, Bettina, and Ines. We are devastated at his loss. Vere was a man of the cloth who left an indelible mark on the clothing industry, as well as on the many people he loved and who continue to love him. May he rest peacefully, surrounded in memory and by the love he gave so generously. Vere will be publicly remembered and honored at a service to which the family warmly welcomes you. The service for Vere will be held in Kāhui St David's, 70 Khyber Pass Road in The Great Hall at Tuesday 9th December at 2.00pm, however prior to the service you are invited to join the family for kai and connection in The Garden Room from 12.00noon.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Vere´s passing. Vere and I started our Schooling at Auckland Grammer on the same day, just after he arrived in New Zealand. In the last few years we enjoyed sharing our respective stories over a quiet beer, shared enjoyment of golf and had planned our next game for the new year.
Vere was very much a family man first and it came through in all he did. Recently at Keryn Smith´s 70th Birthday he was keen to introduce me to Christine.
He was a good friend and I will miss him. My sincere condolences to Christine and family.

Chris, Emma, Jared, Ryan, Anna-lise, and Liam, I thought the send off you gave Vere was truly beautiful. Sadly I had to go back to work, so didn't get to join you and pass on my condolences personally at his after match send off, but I can imagine you have done as fantastic a job of that as you did his service. I first met Vere when he was at Smith Uren, and I was involved in their freight forwarding, then worked closely with Vere when I started IDS, as we managed the Devere 3PL work into the likes of Hallensteins menswear, which is those days was huge, since selling that business and starting Apparel Line I have not seen as much of you all, but have always held Vere in high regard. He was the ultimate entrepreneur, and also the ultimate gentleman. He called a spade , a spade, and I have no doubt the entire industry represented him. Chris, what a superstar partner in business and life you have been, Vere was very lucky. Thinking of you all and how unjust his untimely death is. Wishing you comfort in this unspeakable pain. sending Hugs, Wendy Haresnape.

Chris ,I have just got home from Vere's send off.You all did the most incredible job in honouring the man.The world certainly is worse off for him not being in it but he will be watching over and guiding you all until you meet again.
It bought back fond memories of my time at De Vere Textiles.
Thinking of you all and I have no doubt you will all continue to live life to the fullest and keep making wonderful memories with him in the forefront of your minds and hearts.
Lots of love, Shelley Tetro (Shells) xxxx

Deeply saddened at the loss of Vere and can't quite believe we will never see him again. He was the central figure in the close Sharma family, always accepting of people whoever they were and warmly included us in his family. We appreciated his ready smile and quiet sense of humour. All our love and support goes to his beloved Chris, Jared, Ryan and Carla, Em and Alistair, Anna-Lise and Tom, Liam and his six grandchildren all of whom adored him. We will really, really miss him.
