My name is Shirley, I worked for your mother when I was 14 years old. she taught me to cook and to clean a house, I would look after the boys for her so she could go out. And I turned out to be a wonderful cook. When I went home my wages were taken off me, but I didn't care...I worked for her for a whole year, I loved working for her every Saturday. I caught up with your mother when I was 16. They had the Fish and Chip Shop. She wanted me to work for her again, but I couldn't do it as I had no roof over my head.I had to work on the farms.I often wonder what happened to the Chevy your parents had, I saved hard as I wanted one. But I got married and a husband instead. What a wonderful lady at 90, she would have had a lot of stories to tell. If any of you want to contact me,please do. Shirley Ritchie

My name is Shirley, I worked for your mother when I was 14 Years old, on Doon Farm. She needed help in the house with her 5 young boys. I would babysit them at nighttime. She taught me how to cook and to clean, i turned out to be a wonderful cook at 14.She was such a lovely lady. The wages she gave me were taken off me when I got home. But I loved going to work for her every Saturday for a whole year. I caught up with her when I was 16 years old, she wanted me to work for her in her Fish and Chip shop Te Awamutu. I couldn't as I had to work on Farms as I had no roof over my head at the time. I often wonder what happened to your mums and dads chevy. I was saving for one but i got married and got a husband instead. I would love you to get in touch with me and share memories of her. To get to 90 years old, what a lovely lady she was. A memory of so many years ago when I came home very late. It was my Mum's birthday 31st December and, of course, New Year's eve. I sneaked passed the kitchen where Mum (Madeleine) and Aunty Heather were laughing and chatting away. You see, this was how they spent most New Year eves celebrating two occasions in one. So many wonderful memories to treasure. Will be sadly missed.
RIP Aunty Heather xx
