I will remember my uncle Harry as a wise, kind, friendly and cheerful person, who lead a very full life. I always enjoyed meeting with him over the years, in Hong Kong, New Zealand, and when they were visiting the UK. It was always good to hear Harry's stories and reminiscences of his travels. His brother Alan always spoke of him with love and respect. Harry will be greatly missed.

We have always felt extremely privileged and fortunate to have been Harry's next door neighbour. The entire Dewhurst family made us so welcome when we moved to Auckland and they were fun, generous and wise people. In later years when asking Harry how his grandchildren were he told me each one's achievements, like their cricket score, spelling test results and current news of each. He was a caring thoughtful person. and he will be loving remembered by us all. The Mansell Family

For Parry

There are so many things I will never forget about you, Parry.

At the age of 6, you taught me what a palindrome' was and gave me a dollar every time I could tell you it back. You described your morning medication as if it were your breakfast: this one's my tomato, this one's my egg, this one's my toast and marmalade... so we never wondered what they really were. You greeted us at your door, every single time, by cheekily asking Gran - Do we know these people? You told us stories from your life (sometimes more than once....) and you blew us all away with your grasp of words and numbers.

Remembering all these things, I realise just how much of a role model you really are. Growing up, you showed us that it was right to be kind and to smile all the time. You instilled in us all a love of travel and adventure. You made us feel like it was cool to be smart and educated. And you showed us Dewhurst boys how to be a true gentleman.

These characteristics live on in all of us and, with that, there's no doubt all of these amazing things about you are what continues to define the Dewhurst's. And the Graham's. And the Abbott's. And the Burdens. And the McBrides. You truly set the standard to which we all aspire.

I'll never forget when, in one of my recent visits home, I asked - how are you, Parry? and you simply answered ...happy! along with your trademark smile.

To me, that sums you up perfectly and it will forever be how I remember you.

I feel so blessed to have known you Parry and I can't wait to tell my own kids about you.
I'll love and miss you always.

Always a smile , a devoted family man who was always welcoming and positive . As an uncle a travel/work inspiration to us all ; opened up a new view on the world as he cut his own furrow through life at the other side of the globe.
He will be very sadly missed ; many happy memories to think back on though , over his long and fruitful life.

A cheeky grin and the life and soul of a party, are the first memories I have of this wonderful gentleman, Harry. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to know him as well as I know his beautiful daughter, Nicola and her amazing children. The love they have for him is immeasurable. He will be greatly missed but I know that he will continue to dance and grin from above.... for he is at rest now and dmgorever in their hearts.

My Great Grandpa - Parry

Parry was funny. Parry took out his teeth and that made me laugh. Parry always made Grandma embarrassed by doing a big burp. Parry would take out 20c out of his pocket and you had to answer a question and if you got the answer right you would get the money.

He was awesome.

What was your favourite memory about Parry?

We have been fortunate to have had Harry and June in our lives. A kinder, more gentle man than Harry would be difficult to find. Cheeky, funny, and happiest when surrounded by his beautiful family. A father to be proud of, a loving and loyal husband and the grandchildren and great grandchildren will have had the joy of a playful and loving Parry in their lives. What a fabulous legacy. Rest in peace Harry, you are a truly beautiful soul and will never sorely missed. With love - Trish, Graeme & Jacques

A treasured photo and memory of Harry and June taken at Whitehaven during a visit to our home in Cumbria . RIP my lovely kind and gentle cousin

We have fond memories of Harry and June giving us support and friendship when we came to Takapuna 21 years ago, taking us out on the night we unpacked to share with a group in the Parish for an evening. Our friendship continued over the six years we were in the appointment, with memorable family celebrations we were invited to join. Harry had stories to share of times past and events he'd been involved in. With June he was regular at worship and always supportive. We've been aware over these past few years of the support they gave and needed of each other along with their an interest in and affirmation of all the families. While they made the North Shore their home settled community they also held onto their historical associations of the past. June and their families are all going to miss Harry as we do.

Many of Harry's stories have been told for decades (and will continue to be told) in the UK. Harry was full of fun and will be sorely missed. Personally, he offered me many words of wisdom for my time in Hong Kong. Love Kallum, Alistair, Amanda and Runt Marsden.

Harry and June are our oldest and closest friends. Harry was so intelligent and wise, with a wicked sense of humour and a huge enjoyment of life. It was wonderful being with June and Harry at all times and in so many places, both in New Zealand and on all our wonderful trips. God Bless you Harry and rest well.
With much love and sympathy to June, your friend Elizabeth

It was was a real honor to have know Harry , a man who knew how to enjoy life and was and will continue to be an inspiration to all his children, grand children , great grand children and extended family. I will always remember that twinkle in his eye , great sense of humor and many happy hours we spent together with family at 25 Hororata Rd as the sun set with a compulsory G&T in hand as he played his beloved keyboard. Not so sure about his singing but still enjoyed the occasion immensely. We will all remember his good sound advice and valuable lessons he shared from his life experiences , sadly missed by all but never to be forgotten. Rest on peace Harry you were one of life's true gems.

Harry was always willing to listen to others and thought the world of his family. He took a particular interest in the younger generation and loved to delight them with his party tricks. He was also a loyal and caring friend to all he knew. He and June had a lifetime of love and laughter together and still sent each other loving birthday and anniversary cards each year.
We will miss his ready wit and ‘Eee By Gums’ with his cheeky grin.
He will continue in our memories as a kind and endearing spirit full of laughter, always will to help others.
Love Lib and Gordon
