Greg was a wonderful friend, musician & partner in crime and so much fun
When we played clarinet together in orchestras. We lost touch when he moved to Australia & I am shocked to hear of his death.

Society Jazzmen 1974

Bob Douglas

March 20, 2011

Bob Douglas, Trombone, Society Jazzmen. 19th March 2011.
Greg was the original clarinet player with the Society Jazzmen and was 19yrs old when the band formed in 1969. He looked about 15 so often wore a false moustache when we played in pubs as legally he was not allowed in as 20 was the minimum age.
He was a child prodigy and a virtuoso of the clarinet and played a great part in the group becoming very popular.
The Society Jazzmen are still playing today with two of the original group and we will be toasting and remembering Greg at our next gig on the 20th March.
Attached photo of band in 1974, Greg 4th from left.

Cliff Anderson

March 16, 2011

My name is Cliff Anderson and spent my high school days at Avondale College playing a clarinet alongside Greg, who was my playing insperation. We were Inseparable friends at that time and the NZ Herald archives will have a picture of Greg & I at a town hall promanade concert, sitting cross legged head in hands looking very angelic. circa 1964. I lost touch with him after high school, but will always cherish those years at Avondale College with him.
