RIP Greg, so sorry to read about your passing . My Brother knew you at Grammar & also has since passed away from cancer. A truly unforgiving disease. I enjoyed seeing you swim at the Olympic pools which is where I would train too & years later we chatted out & about in the Parnell area. Rest gently.

I only found out about Gregs passing today. It has shocked & sadden me badly. We grew-up in the same area. We became good friends at Wesley Intermediate, & even better friends 10 years later playing for Grammar Old Boys. We were the only 2 boys from Mt Roskill in the Team & he looked after me.
Greg was strong, an immensely talented rugby player & swimmer, & the toughest man I have ever known.
I am shaken to the core with his passing.
I will never forget him.

I can't believe that Greg has died . I am so sorry to hear the sad news as he had such boundless energy and kindness . I met him at the Auckland University gym in the 1980s when I was studying to be an architect and he used to work out there . He described his love of rugby and touch and explained how best to work out with weights when we got chatting one day .
We became friends as he had such a lovely manner and generosity of spirit . At that time he was working as a graphic designer in Parnell and looking towards opening his own business . He was a fun loving gentle giant and always non - judgemental and had no expectations as a friend . I tried to help him strategise for his creative future work and he was always good at showing amusement for my endeavours .
He was a good friend and companion at a time when young people need friends . My sincere condolences to his family and friends . Rest in peace Greg .

As a young Aussie coming to New Zealand in the mid 90's Greg was a great mate. Met my wife through him and Brett. Sad we can't catch up.
Larger than life and a great friend. Spero

Dear Greg,
You always impacted everyone you met whether through your ability to understand and empower people through your varied walk and experience of life, your phenomenal creativity, your infectious personality, your amazing ability to talk and talk and your big heart. You impacted my life and etched our story in my heart. Our time was long ago and our paths not meant to be, but never forgotten. I hope you have found inner peace within and with the world. Much aroha to you, your family, your Dad and Mum and the beautiful Lam family. RIP.

Big boy Greg!

The Auckland Bridge Recovery Church remembers Greg with great affection and respect. Greg personified a successful recovery journey in how he was as a person, and the words of encouragement he shared with us on several occasions. Greg's positive legacy and influence will be intertwined forever with those who met him and heard him speak at Recovery Church.

GOODWIN, Gregory Arthur. Passed away on January 22, 2017. Greg was a respected member of the AGS 1980 and 1981 1st XV's. He was a force to be reckoned with; tough, stroppy, uncomprimising, yet dedicated to his mates both on and off the field. His smile was infectious which often confused the opposition. We will all miss you Greg. Love from your teams. Rest in peace mate.
