Graeme BLAIR Obituary

Were it not for his INSIGHT my life could have been MUD- instead I am still at least a reasonably successful teacher myself @ 63

Very sorry to hear this news. I was a student at Lynfield College from 1973 - 1977 and Mr Blair was a major force in the culture of the school. With my mother and my wife teachers, in hindsight, one can only now really appreciate the passion, professionalism and love that teachers of that era brought into the classrooms. And.. they were characters too, such personalities - Mr Blair, Mr Wolff, Miss Thompson, Mr Hater...the list goes on. Forty years later, we are still richer for it.

'Mr Blair' was my 5th and 6th form English teacher. I connected more with Graeme than any other teacher I had at Lynfield College and he helped me to achieve at a level higher than all my other subjects. For a time after leaving school I would visit Graeme at his Blockhouse Bay home. I'd bring snapper or flounder I had caught in the Manukau, I guess as a way of saying 'thank you'. We'd sit down and chat together over a beer, a 500ml can of Double Brown I recall.
Great guy and great teacher - never forgotten. Cheers Mr Blair.

A man came up to me yesterday at a funeral to tell me how inspiring a teacher my father was (Who died a few years ago) so I thought how nice it is for family when these thoughts are passed on.
Graeme was my 6A English tutor and was an inspiring teacher who had the knack of making English Literature interesting. Not only did that inspire me but I was able, through him, to pass that onto my children when they studied Eng Lit at school.
I recall his great sense of humour which lightened a sometimes dour subject.
Graeme and Dad were great friends at Lynfield College which continued on throughout their lives, and Mum and Dad (Colleen & Derek Wolff) had so many great laughs when they all got together...his sense of humour will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts go out to the family at this time.
