Gordon was larger than life itself, a true Opotiki legend with a heart of gold. He's been taken too soon and leaves a huge hole in many lives. My heartfelt sympathy to Suzanne and all the Nelson family.

Susanne, so sorry to hear about Gordon and sorry I cannot be with you today - I will miss his smile which reminded you he was a softie underneath and his bantering to get a bite - always successful - my thoughts are with you and your family through this tough time. Love Theresa Hatton

Dear Sue and family,

We were stunned to hear the news and our heartfelt condolences are with you all. Gordon could always be relied on to help out when needed, regardless of any inconvenience. This we say from personal experience. And we were not alone, many, many people are grateful for his unselfishness. The morning coffee's and the ensuing banter were a delight and his imposing presence will be sorely missed. He was a valued member of ' The Knitting Club '. Although he was your beloved family member, his passing with his mate Fred has also left a community without one of their more iconic identities.
Kia Kaha Nelson Family.
