I was a student taught by Professor Hookings in 1978-9. I too Googled him to see if he was still living but sadly it was not to be. His maths ability still inspires me to solve problems. There was no maths problem he couldn't solve, though he always seemed surprised that he did it. What a humble and genius person he was.

I was just thinking about some of my memories of maths olympiads camps in 2004/2005, and remembered Gordon and wondered if he was still alive (as figured he would be nearly 100 by now!), so I did a google search - I am sorry to hear of his recent passing. I remember the great passion he had for the maths olympiad camps/team/competitions and appreciate how he helped ignite my love of maths.
