Gilbert M. Hanan Sr., 89, of Washington Township, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2011, in Forbes Regional Hospital Monroeville. Gilbert was born April 19, 1921, in Spring Church, to the late Clyde and Charlotte (Smith) Hanan. He lived in Washington Township since 1954. Mr. Hanan was employed at Wean United, Vandergrift, as a security guard and drove bus for Moore Bus Lines of Washington Township for 37 years until his retirement. He was a veteran of the Army serving during World War II. Gilbert was a member of First Baptist Church, American Legion Post 114, VFW and DAV, all of Vandergrift. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, fishing, reading and tinkering with cars. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Karen (Liberatore) Hanan; and sister, Leah Jane Sowers. Mr. Hanan is survived by his wife of 64 years, Blanche Ellen (Mechling) Hanan, of Washington Township; son, Gilbert M. Hanan Jr., of Washington Township; son, Dennis R. (Kim) Hanan, of Oklahoma Borough; daughter, Deborah E. (Barry) Ryan, of Washington Township; daughter, Pamela E. (Rick) Crooks, of Washington Township; nine grandchildren, David, Matthew, Aaron, Jordan, Kaylan, Kristin, Bethany, Stephen and T.J.; five great-grandchildren, Riley, Madison, Ryan, Owen and Liam; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL AND CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo, and additional viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church, 290 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Services will be at 11 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Michael E. Mrasz officiating. Burial in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo, where full military honors will be accorded by the Vandergrift Honor Guard Inc. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gilbert's name to the
