With fond memories of an impressive man. First met George in the early 1970s when he and his family ran their restaurant in Fenton Street, with myself and fellow workers from across the road going there regularly for our evening meals. Always such a warm welcome and invitation to yarn about contemporary issues while the meal was being prepared.
I still smile when remembering chatting with George once out the back of his later premises in Pukuatua Street, when a couple of unsavoury characters tried to put him down as they walked past. George only had to say a few quick, incisive words to put them in their place - and they were last see skulking away blaming each other for yielding to George's strength of character. .
George's imposing list of interests and hobbies speak volumes of his wonderful approach to life. Sincere condolences to his family. George was a special man who held standards which, unfortunately, are all too rare these days.

Our family condolences to Gavin and family. Our dad Bob n George were good mates going way back 60 odd years when we lived in the Regent hotel and our weekly meals at the Milama were our treat. George and Debbie were special people for our Mum n Dad and the food was amazing especially the Won Ton soup. I can remember sprinting up those stairs to say hello to George. Nowadays I couldn't even walk up those stairs LOL. So sad to finally say goodbye to 2 very lovely people, however we still have the, and will always cherish the memories, forever, you are legends in our lives. Kia Ora George and Debbie
