George MASON Obituary

MASON, George William V, ONZM. PhD (Botany Science), PhD (Auckland Honorary). 2 May 1930 - 13 September 2024. Passed away at home in his 95th year. Loved son of the late George IV and Dorace Mason. Loved brother of Warren, Dorace and Barbara (all deceased). Much loved by his many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. George had a long and exciting life and was passionate about science and the arts, family and community and the outdoors, for which we are grateful. Messages may be sent to [email protected] The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/ event/4577838 A celebration of George's life will be held at St Andrew's Church, 72 Liardet Street, New Plymouth on Saturday 21 September 2024 at 12 noon, followed by committal at the Taranaki Crematorium Chapel.

I'm pleased that I spent some time with George talking about the Taranaki Alpine Club projects that he was involved in over the years. He will be missed and with his passing goes a lot of club knowledge. He was a great supporter of the club.

MASON, George William V. ONZM, PhD (Botany Science), PhD (Auckland Honorary) The George Mason Charitable Trust are saddened by the passing of our Trust Settlor and Trustee Dr George Mason, ONZM. His enthusiasm for science and the arts has driven the Trust's philanthropic research scholarships and community activities through many Taranaki, national and international associations. He has been greatly appreciated and will be missed by so many groups and individuals who George has supported, enriched, invigorated and inspired.
