George my good friend. It was only today that I learned of your passing from Nora. We went back to 1990 and Hon Matiu Rata and our catfish project. You were a scientist, a visionary and a gentleman. I was privileged to know what you contributed to the historic Fisheries Settlement. Travel well on your journey. Allah O Akbar. Kia Kaha to your family.

George you've gone too soon. I have very fond memories of our times together as PhD students, as work colleagues and as friends - at sea, at Fisheries Research Centre, out with the tuna fleet, on aerial surveys and travelling together to the USA. Like your running, your work ethic was amazing, your achievements prodigious. I tried to contact you recently - but sadly I was too late to catch up again. My thoughts are with your friends & family.

My sincere condolences to George's friends and family. As a work colleague and friend I remember George as a dedicated and talented fisheries scientist with a special skill in articulating results in his written reports. His work on Maori fisheries underpinned many of the Waitangi Tribunal's findings on Maori fisheries claims. Haere ra.

HABIB, George. On the 5th July 2013 passed suddenly in his 70th year. Loved son of the late George and Monica Habib. Treasured brother and brother in law of Anthony and Gail, Sue and Robert, Kathy and Uma, Monica, Taro, Rongoheikume and John and his many nieces and nephews. A life cut short, so much unfinished work. Not too bad Oruanui Boy, the best though, 7 wickets for 14 runs. Taupo Funeral Services Ltd, FDANZ
