I was a co-researcher with Earle on the Drummikill Branch of the Buchanan Clan for circa 20 years, after meeting Gay and him when he visited Drymen .as part of a return to his old place of employment at the Canniesburn Hospital outside Glasgow, but this time on holiday! Our joint efforts have now been safely deposited with the Clan Chief for posterity, but not having had my usual Christmas email , and knowing our venerable ages, I sought news on Google, but have been unable to relay the good news in time. I shall miss his long newsy emails and our great working relationship, and offer my sincere condolences to the family, He was a great gentleman.

So sorry to learn today, from cousin Claude Buchanan, that our cousin Earle had passed away. We 3 were deep into Buchanan family history & shared much information. I was always made welcome by Gay & Earle when I visited. Condolences to all his family xxx

The family of John Williams, a longtime colleague of Earle, wish to pass on our heartfelt condolences to you both, Diana and Catherine.
We, as a family, appreciated Earle's thoughtfulness after Dad, John, passed away several years ago.
Kind regards from us all.

An admirable, intellectual and deeply intuitive man. A very meaningful & full life, including professional contributions, but nevertheless deeply missed.

On behalf of my family I send our thoughts and sympathies to Earle´s family. My late father (Dr Sholto Faris) referred many patients and family members to Earle and with Gay´s help we all received excellent care. We held Earle in the highest regard.
In more recent times, I provided Earle with early memories and memorabilia handed down by my grandmother, who was Sir William Manchester´s older and most adored sister. Earle included some of these in his wonderful history of Bill´s remarkable career. Earle was equally a highly respected plastic surgeon and Bill´s most favourite protege. It was a great thrill to receive an early copy of the book signed by Earle.
With my sincerely felt sympathy, Deborah Dons (nee Faris)

Earle was related to my late husband, Douglas George Turnbull through their mother´s side. We knew Earle from his age of 18 plus and until her death always received Gay´s yearly e-mails. We had occasional contact. I am now 101. Earle was a lovely soul, so kind

Very sad to hear of Earl's passing. He was one of the more pleasant surgeons to anaesthetise for. Always very respectful, a trait very rare among surgeons. He never raised his voice or showed anger in stressful moments. I woked with him as a registrar and my second to last run, as a PF for 6 months at MMH. But he lived a very full professional life devoted to Middlemore Hospital. Condolences to his family which he obviously spent a lot of time with and who will obviously miss him very dearly. But he lived a very full life and leaves his family, memories that they will cherish forever.

I worked with him as an anaesthetist for over 40 years at Middlemore Hospital.
A caring skilful surgeon who I always enjoyed working with.
Condolences to the family.
