In nearly 50 years as a journalist much of it spent as a business reporter and commentator I can say the Geoff Ricketts stands out for his acumen mixed with a demonstration of humanity that way beyond the business realm. Quiet humble and with a brain not only held in the highest regard by those on his side of a debate or financial play but those facing his strategic ability often only recognised as the Ricketts touch. There were times that strategy was brought into question such as when it was questioned by the Securities Commission when I saw him and fellow directors never waiver from their convictions and the righteousness of their actions. Although his obvious reluctance to blow his own trumpet will probably mean that his contribution to New Zealand may go not fully recognised to my mind he stands as one of the paramount business of the last 50 years and likely the last 200 years. Nga mihi rangatira God Bless you and your wife the gentle lady who served the best, coffee in the city.

Warren and Shaz had the honour of forming a close friendship with Geoff and Fran through our Rawhiti connection. We were shocked to hear of his sudden illness. Our thoughts are with the Ricketts family at this sad time. We will miss Geoff and the friendship and generosity he shared with us.
