Gary was honest in expressing himself, enthusiastic in creating solutions and stood up for for whatever he felt was right. He was one of the architects of the Chronic Care Management program that benefited populations in NZ. I enjoyed his sense of humour while working with him. I will sorely miss him; but remember him fondly, always!!

I knew Gary at medical school in Johannesburg. I have not spoken to him for many years and was shocked to stumble upon his death notice. I am glad to see, from the condolences, that his wonderful humour, warmth and thoughtfulness stayed with him throughout his life, and am sad that they could not have shone for longer.

Gary's death is a real loss Gary was an amazing guy he really backed the idea of General Practices being more proactive in their Long Term Conditions Management in the mid/late 1990's in South Auckland, well before it was an accepted notion, and developed the Bold Promise system to support that work - rest well friend

Kia hora te marino;
kia whakapapapounamu te moana;
kia tere krohirohi i mua i t huarahi.

May the calm be widespread;
may the seas glisten like greenstone;
and may the sunlight dance before you on your journey.

Gary's work helped transform TaPasefika PHO and the lives of patients he served in South Auckland. He has left an amazing legacy and we will miss him.
