Gary FERNANDEZ Obituary

Only just found out the sad news about Gary. He had a big influence on our children's swimming and they excelled from his coaching. A great person. R I P the Blackie family.

Gary was a great boss, I have many memories of my time working for him....like the time he tucked his pants into his socks and Morris Danced on the work table!

I am sorry to hear Gary has passed away over the years delivering fabric to him for customers. He always had a smile on his face. Sometimes fabric not up to quality needed more. I found Gary to be polite and have a great sense of humour. Condolences to the family

My thoughts are with Gary's family at this incredibly tough time. I want to thank you for sharing your Dad and husband with the swimming world. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been coached and taught to coach by Gary. He not only coached us to be better swimmers, but role modelled how we could be better people. As I have got older, I have learnt to truly appreciate Gary's heart of gold and extreme generosity to us and our sport. He will be truly missed, but never forgotten, as he has left a legacy that will continue to inspire

What started out as you being my boss....30 years on ...has ended as you being a 2nd father, best mate,mentor.I am so thankful to have had you in my life.

Gary will always be remembered for your devotion and countless hours spent at Western Districts Swim Club coaching , organising , managing . Can´t thank Gary enough for instilling my life long love of swimming and importance of community sport and values . Gary always knew what we were up to since I was a child .He was one special and very giving guy.
