I found out about Gary's passing after today working through an electronic circuit. I realised it all came back from what Gary taught me more than 20 years ago in his wonderful lectures. A succinct toolkit for to understand a circuit and it stuck that long. I thought I would send him an email and discovered the sad news. Rest in peace Gary, your teachings will ring in the ears of students for many years more.

I only learned of Gary a few months back, when my research into the history of Morse Code brought me to a long-defunct magazine, Morsum Magnificat, in which Gary was a frequent contributor. Over these last months I read all the back issues of that magazine, and all Gary's columns, and I learned a lot. Just weeks ago I confirmed that Gary was still listed in the ham radio database and decided to reach out to him...
Today, July 9th, 2018, I read the last of Gary's columns. And having done so, I went again to that ham radio database, to look up Gary's contact info, to reach out, and tell him how much his work meant, and how valuable I though his inputs would be to my research.
And then this sad news: I learned of Gary's passing, that just last week he had became a "Silent Key" as we hams say.
My heart goes out to you, his family and friends for this loss, and I mourn not having gotten to thank him personally, and must console myself with his excellent work. All the best Gary. CUL and 73. Chris NW6V

Many fond memories from Onehunga Presbyterian BC. days ....table tennis ...
dances with music provided by Gary's band ....and Symondsville where we learnt how to ballroom dance properly!
He had such a unique sense of humour ...that when my son came home from University to say his lecturer could wriggle his ears! I said that must be Gary Bold...and it was.
So many more happy times ...and my love goes to Rosemary, Jane and Christine...and their families as they remember such a special person.

Our condolences and sympathy. I (Dave) remember Gary when we were teenagers, and his great sense of humour, his musical ability, and his unexpected craftiness when playing tennis. He brought a lot of joy into his friends' lives.

Thinking of you Rosemary, and of all your family. Fond memories of Gary as a La Leche League Dad, telling new Dads about the benefits of their children being breastfed. Christine and Chris Ball

Mr Bold will be forever loved for his wonderful pipe smoke on the side lines of the football field as we were growing up. He was always at our games Geoff. He was always kind and treated me with respect and made me feel important. What a great man. Love and hugs to you Geoff and Catherine. Our thoughts are with you and please accept our apologies for not being at the service as we will be overseas. Take care. Much love. Shane and Al.

Gary was a delightful man who enlivened our twice yearly meetings with the University of Auckland moderators. He had an excellent oratorial turn of phrase and a warm, compassionate heart. He will be missed.

Gary will be sorely missed in the physics department at Taylor's College. I will always be inspired by his endless enthusiasm and his projection of his love of Physics.
