Have only just heard of Gary's death. He was a great bloke to know and to have worked with. A source of never-ending stories and one of the most articulate purveyors of "the cupboards are bare" angle in wage negotiations. I will miss him. My condolences to Gary's family.

Was only made aware of Garys passing yesterday. I worked with Gary in the old Department of Labour in Hamilton. Great times with him in the Hamilton Rowing Club and more great social gatherings than I can remember. I thought of him as a close friend. My thoughts are with his wife and children he was a good man and a good friend.

to short a time to have known such an amazing man. You have left a huge hole in my heart. Better have the terms and conditions sorted by the time I get there. Love you Gary.

I'm saddened to hear of Gary's death. He was a talented and, as others have also said, a very nice man. In recent years he was a leading light in organising the annual gathering of the "Sole Traders" - a convivial event in which old friends and colleagues could get together to recount past feats of industrial derring-do (possibly with embellishments) and enjoy each others' company.
My sympathy to Gary's family. I am sorry I will not be able to join you at Gary's funeral, as I will not be back in New Zealand by then.
