Garry MARMENT Obituary

MARMENT, Garry John. With sad hearts we wish to let family and friends know of Garry's passing on Saturday 12th July 2025 peacefully, with grace and the love of his family. Garry was a charismatic, kind, larger-than-life fella. A talented sportsman, he excelled in cricket and football, playing for Diamond FC. He brought people together and saw the best in everyone. His legacy is one of love, laughter and a life lived with courage and a fun-loving spirit. Much cherished and loved husband to April (who passed in 2018) for 55 years, father to Jo and Belinda, father-in-law to Lee and Gautam, and granddad to Jackson and Sam; brother to Betty (passed), Patricia, Carol (passed), Robert (passed), Jimmy, David and Dennis. Our lives are richer and fuller for having had you in them. We will miss you terribly and love you always and forever. Garry's life will be celebrated in a public service at the Chapel of Morris and Morris Funerals (entrance 17 Western Hills Drive) Whau Valley, Whangarei on Thursday 17th July 2025 at 2:00pm followed by a private cremation.

Never had the pleasure of meeting Garry, but as Current Chair and historian of Wellington United AFC Garry is a very recognisable name from Diamonds history, playing senior football for the club between 1958-68.
From the records we have he scored 95 goals in at least 87 games (its more than likely that he played twice that number).
He was in the Diamonds side that won the Venus Shield three times (1963,64,65) and won the first Central League in 1965. Also played for Wellington and trialed for New Zealand
Condolences to family & friends

A sad day indeed. I first met Garry when I joined the Porirua Club in 1994 and enjoyed his humour and had good fun times over the following years. Our thoughts are with his family.
