Franciscus MANN Obituary

MANN, Franciscus Maria (Francis). Born 24 March 1930 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. As Venus rose brightly in the early morning Eastern Waikato sky, 13th day of February 2022, Dad's soul peacefully departed with it. The gentle, caring, softly spoken sailor, astrologer, photographer, lover of forests, birds and the natural world, of science, coffee and jazz music, left on his final outing. Devoted husband of 68 years to Jane, loving father of Micha, Stephanie and Paul, cherished Opa and Great Opa to many. May you always rest in the peace and solace so richly deserved with the sound of the tui and Acker Bilk at your ears and fair skies and kind winds at your smile. 'Love you always my Dad' Paul and family. A private farewell was held for Dad. Heartfelt thanks to the incredibly caring staff at hospital 1, Hilda Ross Rest Home, Hamilton and to Debbie of Seddon Park Funeral Home for her deep compassion. All communications to the Mann family C/- PO Box 5523, Frankton, Hamilton, 3242.

You were my big brother, 2 years up from me. We were always together as kids. We often even wore the same type of clothes...remembering the plus-four trousers we both hated...Because we were so different we often clashed and made up again. You were the man of logic and reason where my emotions did not fit in. But we were inseparable and together in many scouting and hiking events. When I came back from the seminary in Steyl you were the rock I could hold on to and find my balance. We lost contact a bit in later life but you were always on my mind and in the few years I may still have I will not forget you.

Growing up in Rotterdam there are so many happy memories when I think about my brother, such as singing an playing the guitar at home and at our grandparents 50th anniversary, playing ping-pong with his friends in the living room.
The sad moment was when he left for New Zealand. I was lucky to be able to visit him in 1990. He gave me a wonderful time and I will always cherish that I was able to visit with him. I will never forget how he took me in his little boot onto Hamilton Lake, he had so much fun doing that and I enjoyed it so much. I will never forget you dear brother, your memories are very dear to me, until we meet again.

Francis was my boss when I worked in the laboratory at Te Rapa Dairy Company when it first opened. He readily shared his knowledge and skills with those he worked with.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all as you mourn the loss of a husband, father and grandfather.

During our childhood there was so much humour, fun and laughs (brought on by his immeasurable wit). There were memorable family holidays full of loving and caring days. To my cousins, Micha, Stefanie and Paul my sincere condolences on the loss of your dad (my uncle). Love Monica xx

Rest in peace now, old scouting friend - you lived a full life both in Rotterdam and here in New Zealand. My condolences to Jane, Micha, Stephanie and Paul. Hopefully they have some of the Dutch Swing College recordings up there to keep you humming.
