Fleur Adcock was the first real poet I studied at school for UE with her friend Judith Manchester at Waiwhetu Girls High School in the 1960s. Her passing is significant because Fleur made poetic conversations about the fabric of her life valued and memorable. I too am glad that we are celebrating her as a poet, a woman, and a person who understood so much about the political dynamics of relationships. I look forward to hearing stories and having her work read astutely to illuminate her passion and her power with words. Haere, haere, haere, wahine toa, i te po.

While I did not personally know Fleur, I am so glad she will be remembered at St Peter's Willis St. One of New Zealand's gifted poets and writers. Rest in Peace, dear lady.
