Eva MARVIN Obituary

MARVIN, Eva Margo
August 24, 1937- November 6, 2017
This world has lost a very special beautiful soul. Eva Marvin passed away in Calgary on November 6. Eva leaves to mourn her loss brother Bill (Donna), sister Evelyn (Frank), as well as several nieces and nephews, and countless friends in many walks of life. She was predeceased by her parents Jack and Betty Marvin, brother Jack and brother-in-law Tom Millman. Eva was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta, graduating from the Grande Prairie High School in 1955. Despite the fact she contracted polio when she was 8 years old and spent a year in Edmonton's University Hospital recuperating, it did not deter her from pursuing her goal of becoming a nurse. She graduated from the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Edmonton with distinction as RN in 1960 followed later by further studies at the University of British Columbia. She began her long nursing career in 1962 with the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON), in Owen Sound, Ontario, then as public health nurse with Calgary Health Services, and finally in 1974 in various positions with the Alberta Hospital for Sick Children, retiring in 1997. Besides many of her other interests Eva was an active volunteer of the Liberal party and continued her interest in the new Children's Hospital by volunteering as a quilter and as art volunteer there until shortly before her death. A Celebration of Eva's Life will be held in The Solarium of the Old Hospital for Sick Children (Now the Richmond Road Diagnostic and Treatment Centre), at 1820 Richmond Road, Calgary, on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eva may be made to The Sick Children's Hospital Foundation, 2888 Shaganappi Trail NW, Calgary, AB, T3B 6A8. Cremation has taken place. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting leydens.com.

Bill, Donna, Evelyn, Frank and Families. We were saddened to hear of Eva's passing, but we can all take comfort reflecting on the great contribution she made to the health and joy of so many, especially the children. Truly, Eva's was a life worth living.

Eva worked tirelessly on my election campaign back in 2004. She was the volunteer coordinator, a critical person on our campaign team. She was organized, efficient, loyal, fun, capable and dedicated. The world will not be the same without her in it. We had many fun times together, including an amazing trip to Cabo San Lucas!! She will not be forgotten.

A wonderful caring person has passed and we were richer for having known her and having had the chance to share our lives with her.

Eva was a kind, professional, and caring friend. Staff, parents, and children loved and respected her. I still have the beautiful baby quilt she made for my son at his birth and my little grandaughter now has it. Eva was a true inspiration to us all...a fun, compassionate human being who has left the world a better place.

I had the priveledge of working with Eva at the Alberta Children's Hospital during the 70's and 80's. She was the heartbeat of the DAT centre. She was one of the most gracious and welcoming women I have ever met. She will be missed.
