I was in the PNBHS 1st XV in 1962 and Ernie Beard was a really valuable member of that team. He had a lot of strength and pace which made him into a fabulous No 8

It is with sadness that I write honouring the memory of Ernie my old team mate at Palmerston Boys' High.
Ernie and I both had the honour of being members of the PNBHS first XV in 1962. Ernie was the Number 8 and part of a loose forward trio with Bob Wiggelsworth and George Grey. Together they dominated all the opponents we played in that record breaking year. Ernie was a quiet achiever in the team. Deeds not words. Intelligent hard play that left the other teams scrambling.
Ernie was an excellent team player. He "clicked with all of us and was one of the cornerstones on which our success was built.
1962 is now a very long time ago. Sixty three years. But I can see him still, plain as day. In our all white kit. Super fit, strong and fast. Itching to get at them!
My sympathies go to Raye and the family at this time.
I am sure Ernie will be remembered with love by all.

Dear Raye and family.
We were so very sad to learn of Ernie's battle with cancer and his passing.
When someone dear to us passes away, their physical presence is undeniably missed. However, their influence lingers in the most profound and subtle ways. Their values, wisdom, and love become woven into the fabric of our daily lives. In every decision we face, every challenge we encounter, and every joy we celebrate, we carry a part of them with us.
May memories of a Ernie forever be remembered and cherished and also help you all through this difficult time. Sending love Wendy & Colin Young (ex Norsewood)
